the reconnaissance surveys and the detailed survey hereinbe-
fore mentioned The Consulting Engineers reserve to them- selves the right to terminate the engagement by giving two calendar months notice to the Engineer either by telegram or letter such notice to take effect at any time after the ex- piration of six months from the date of appointment of the
Engineer.
4th. Immediately upon his arrival at Hong Kong the Engi- neer shall report the fact to the Governor of Hong Kong.
5th. The duties of the Engineer shall be to perform with
all due diligence the duties of Surveying Engineer in connec- tion with the reconnaissance and detailed surveys before men- tioned and with those of any other railways or branches or other alternative routes which he may be instructed to under- take by the Consulting Engineers and to obtain such informa- tion and to prepare such drawings and estimates in accordance with the instructions to be given to him by the Consulting Engineers as they may deem necessary to enable the results of
the reconnaissance surveys to be placed by him before the
Governor of Hong Kong in such a manner that the selection of
the route to be adopted may be made also as and when instruct- ed by the Consulting Engineers to proceed with the detailed location survey of the selected route and to obtain and in- part to the Consulting Engineers all such further information
and to prepare such further plans drawings and estimates as
may be necessary to enable the Consulting Engineers to report fully to the Crown Agents for the Colonies and generally to perform all engineering duties in connection with the matter which the Consulting Engineers may require.
6th. The Engineer shall devote his whole time and atten- tion exclusively to his work and duty hereunder and shall not either on his own account or on account of any other person
or persons be in any way either directly or indirectly
